Ayurvedic Concept

Ayurveda the eternal science consider this condition as under the affection of prime dosha vata (with the association of other doshas also in variable amounts). And each category of arthritis comes under any sub categories of Ayurvedic concept of arthritis (viz Vatasonitam, Sandhigata vatam, Amavatam, Croshtuka seershakam etc).

Ayurveda explains the causes of Arthritis as:

  1. Ativyayama( excessive exercises)
  2. Yana( excessive walking)
  3. Intake of ahara having tastes like tikta(bitter), katu(pungent), kashaya(astringent)
  4. Food which is rooksha( too dry), tikshna(strongly spicy), and seeta(too cold)
  5. Nisajagara(keeping awake at night)

All of these lead to increase of Vata in the body which inturn vitiates other doshas Kapha and Pitta and they makes the body weak localizes in body joints , producing symptoms.

Treatments in Ayurveda include

  1. Sodhana (cleansing therapies) and
  2. Samana (pacifying therapies)

With Sodhana therapies, the whole doshas inside the body will be removed from its root itself.

Purifying doshas bring the aggravated doshas to their normal levels and heals the disease. Patient will be examined and will be given appropriate treatment protocols by combining both of the therapies (both sodhana and samana).
